CHENNAI: Former Union minister and senior DMK leader T R Baalu has been made party's principal secretary. DMK president M K Stalin announced it on Friday.
The post of DMK principal secretary fell vacant after S Duraimurugan became party treasurer.

Baalu was tipped to get this post even when the elevation of Stalin as party president was still in progress.

While the recent DMK general council meeting unanimously elected Stalin as president and Duraimurugan as treasurer, the post of principal secretary was left vacant.

"Even though a few names like Baalu and E V Velumani were doing the rounds, Baalu remained the front runner. However, stiff opposition to Baalu from within the party had prevented the leadership from taking a decision till last week," a DMK source told TOI.
