Press Trust of India  |  Chandigarh

In a major relief to producers, the government has halved cess on to per litre from 10 paise per litre, according to an official release.

Chief Minister has accorded approval to reduce the cess amount to per litre, the release said Friday.

"The decision was taken in view of the long-pending demand of the producers," Animal Husbandry and O P Dhankar said.

These reduced rates would be effective from February 4, 2016, he said.

"All those who have deposited the cess at the rate of 10 paise per litre, their cess amount would be calculated as per the decreased amount (at the rate of 5 paisa per litre) and the difference would be adjusted against future accruals," Dhankar said.

He said that this has been approved as per the provisions under Murrah and other Milch Animal Breed (Preservation and Development of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Sector) Act, 2001.

Dhankar said his department has also issued the notification accordingly.
