NGT directs Faridabad Deputy Commissioner to look into dumping of garbage in pond

The National Green has directed of to look into the issue of of garbage in a pond at village in the district and submit a report within three months.

"Allegation in this application is that a pond at village in district, which is an existing water body, is being destroyed by garbage. Existence of the pond is recorded in revenue record. Illegal closing of pond is being done by Municipal Corporation,

"In view of above, we direct the Deputy Commissioner, Faridabad to look into the matter and take appropriate action in accordance with law within one month. Report of the action taken may be furnished to this for further consideration within three months by e-mail," the bench said.

The was hearing a plea filed by Faridabad resident alleging that a pond at village in Faridabad district, which is an existing water body, is being destroyed by garbage.

The plea claimed that illegal dumping in the pond, existence of which is mentioned in revenue record, was being done by the municipal corporation of Faridabad.

It said that water bodies are required to be protected for the sake of healthier environment, and dumping was being done in violation of green laws, including the guidelines for preserving the ground water issued by and the provision of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
