Vehicle hauling giant United Road Services names new CEO

Mark Anderson joined the company in 2014 as COO and was promoted to president in 2016.

United Road Services, one of the largest vehicle trucking companies in North America, said President Mark Anderson will succeed CEO Kathleen McCann, effective Jan. 1.

United Road, acquired in 2017 by private equity portfolio manager The Carlyle Group, projects it will move more than 3.5 million vehicles this year for automakers, remarketers, financial institutions, car auctions, car dealers, rental companies and online sellers. The company, based near Detroit in Romulus, Mich., has 1,700 employees and 1,900 owned and contracted vehicle carriers.

The auto hauler has doubled in revenue since 2011, when McCann joined, through acquisitions and organic growth. McCann, 58, will become United Road's executive chairman and focus on strategic direction.

Anderson, 53, joined the company in 2014 as COO and was promoted to president in 2016.

"Mark has proven himself an able leader. In the past five years he has successfully led several key initiatives which have expanded our service network, introduced efficiencies in our operations and secured new business. He has earned the trust of our customers and our people. United Road will be in great hands with Mark in the driver's seat," McCann said in a statement last week.
