The governor of Massachusetts  issued a state of emergency Friday , after a series of explosions the day before left one man dead.

The explosions and fires in Lawrence, Andover and North Andover may have been caused by an over-pressurized gas main  according to state officials .

On Friday, Governor Charlie Baker said he was putting Eversource Energy in charge of coordinating the response to the explosions.

Local officials  had complained  Columbia Gas — the company in charge of the affected main — had been unresponsive.

An 18-year-old died after one of the explosions blew part of a chimney off a house and onto his car.

Dozens more were reportedly injured by the explosions and fires, which affected thousands of homes.

Thousands of people were still waiting to see when they'd be able to return to their homes Friday afternoon, as responders work on shutting off the gas in Lawrence.  This video includes additional material from  Newsy affiliate CNN .
