INDORE: A 25-year-old media professional was stabbed 38 times in
Indore late on Thursday night by a man who claimed he had been wooing her since high school and couldn’t bear to see her “adopt a modern lifestyle and make male friends”. The victim, Supriya Jain, died in hospital around 6.30am on Friday.
The accused, Kamlesh Sahu, attacked her with a sickle he had bought from Sarafa Bazaar, Indore’s famed all-night market. After stalking her on
Facebook, he lay in wait for her for days and struck the moment he found her alone.
The incident took place in front of CHL Hospital. Supriya, who hailed from
Damoh, was a back-office executive with a media house in Vijay Nagar. On Thursday night, she returned from a visit to a temple and was climbing the stairs to her office on the fourth floor when she went back down to buy dinner.
The area around her office is abuzz with activity till midnight. As she walked down the lane towards the main road, Sahu grabbed her by the hair and pushed her to the ground, say police. He had covered his face with a white handkerchief. Passersby watched in horror as he pulled out a sickle and attacked Supriya. When she screamed for help, two men ran towards her, but Sahu swung the sickle at them, threatening to kill them if they came near.
The duo ran towards the main road where they spotted a Dial 100 van passing by and shouted for help. When police arrived on the scene, Sahu was sitting on a blood-soaked Supriya, repeatedly slashing her face. The cops overpowered him and carried the girl to CHL Hospital, leaving a grisly
trail of blood from the scene of crime to the hospital.
“The accused has been arrested and booked for murder,” said MIG police station in-charge Tehzeeb Qazi.
Sahu told TOI during an interview at MIG police station that he killed Supriya as she had taken to a “modern lifestyle and had many male friends”. “I was in love with her. I had proposed to her when we were in Class XII and she had said we will be in a relationship once she gets a job. I waited for her all this while,” Sahu told TOI.
“The kind of clothes she wore made me furious,” he said.
“I decided to kill her after I found her speaking to different men at her office ,” he said
