A delegation of Congress leaders met Director-General of Police M. Mahender Reddy on Friday complaining of police harassment of Congress leaders and workers and urged him to give direction to the officers to stop filing false cases.
The delegation consisting of TPCC chief spokesperson Sravan Dasoju, M. Kodanda Reddy, Kuna Srisailam Goud, Pavan Kumar Reddy pointed out digging of old cases filed against their leaders, including T. Jayaprakash Reddy, Gandra Venkataramana Reddy, Revanth Reddy, and also false cases under SC and ST Atrocities Act on leaders like Kuna Srisalam Goud.
The delegation also informed the DGP that Congress workers were being threatened by the local police officials that they would be booked in fake cases or their old cases would be re-opened and this was being done at the instance of caretaker Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. The delegation requested the DGP to direct his officers to act per law and not as per the directions of the political bosses.
Later, they told the media that Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao wants to terrorise the Congress cadre so as to influence the next elections but he would not succeed. Mr. Sravan also alleged that to manipulate the next elections few officials of Telangana Police have colluded with TRS leaders and are indulging in threatening, blackmailing and filing unlawful cases. And if this continues people would lose faith in democracy.
He also demanded that the recent police transfers should be cancelled as they were done as per the whims and fancies of ruling party MLAs to indulge in electoral manipulations.
