Chandrapur: After a year-long ban, police department has allowed the DJs to play during Ganesh festival. The decision came after intervention of guardian minister Sudhir Mungantiwar but with stringent warning of action on violation of sound pollution norms.
Previous SP, Niyati Thaker, had banned the use of DJs in the district during public or religious function since last year in the light large scale violation of sound pollution norms. Only traditional music instruments like dhol, band etc were allowed. The DJ union had objected to it.
On Tuesday, cops had seized a DJ set being played in a Ganesh mandal. The members of the mandal had mobbed a police station and cops had to cane-charge a few people. After the incident, a meeting was held at district collectorate in presence of collector Kunal Khemnar, Dr Maheswar Reddy, local leader Kishor Jorgewar and standing committee chairman Rahul Pawde and president of the DJ union.
Following discussion with guardian minister Sudhir Mungantiawar via video conferencing, the police department agreed to relax ban.
Police department, however, reminded the DJ union of strict sound pollution norms and Supreme Court directives for its stringent implementation. Cops will keep keen watch of the volume of DJs during festival and those found violating will face strong action.
