Nagpur: Union minister for transport, roads and waterways Nitin Gadkari announced on Friday that motor vehicles driven by electric and bio-fuel driven by motor vesicles will be exempt from permits from transport authorities.
Gadkari made the announcement during interaction in the city with TV journalists. “The rising costs of petrol and diesel is a cause of concern for all. The government is deliberating on several measures to reduce the burden of petro-fuel price hike on common man. But one of the solutions is reducing use of costly petrol, diesel and by replacing vehicles with electric and biofuel run engines.

“To encourage people to switch over to electric and bio-fuels, such vehicles will be exempted from obtaining permits,” said Gadkari.

As a decisive step in this direction, the Union government has this week already hiked ethanol prices. This will boost production of ethanol by sugar factories in the country.

Gadkari has been for long promoting use of biofuels and ethanol and had even demonstrated it by introducing first ethanol driven Green bus in Nagpur for public transport.
