Debt waiver scheme: 1.5 lacs farmers have double bank accounts. More than 1.5 lacs indebted farmers have double bank accounts in Cooperative as well as commercial banks, simultaneously. Such facts have been appeared after the compiling of data of farmers, who are to be taken under the debt waiving scheme for next phase. Sources in the CMO told that immediately after the rural poll, the Government will start second phase of debt waiver scheme and the process will be completed in the end of this year.
After receiving of data of debt from the Nationalized banks, the CMO is busy in compiling the detail of amount of debt and number of farmers. The target to waive off the loan is ten lacs farmers across the State ,who have less than two and half acre of land. According to scheme, Rs two lacs of each farmers are to be waive off. But the farmers, who have double accounts in cooperative bank as well as Nationalized banks, will be obliged in the end of scheme and Rs one lac each will be deposited in both accounts of a single farmer.
Sources also revealed that there will be no grand function in this regard and the amount will be deposited online in the accounts of farmers so that the Government may able to save money. All transactions would be done in a simple function, which is likely to be held in the office of Chief Minister in Civil Secretariat. Notable, the Nationalized banks have declined to disburse the crop loan by 30 percent on the ground that defaulters are not eligible to avail fresh loan.
