Vijayawada, Dharmabad Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in Maharashtra issued an “arrest warrant” on Friday against Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and 15 other leaders, including Water Resources Management Minister D Umamaheshwra Rao and former MP Nama Nageswara Rao, in a case relating to obstructing officials from doing their work at Babli project, across the river Godavari in 2010 in Maharashtra.
The First Class Magistrate N R Gajbhiye issued orders to the police Inspector, Dharmabad to arrest Mr Naidu and 15 others under sections 353, 324, 332,336,337,504,507, 109, 34 of IPC and directed to produce them before the Court by September 21.
When Chandrababu Naidu was the Leader of the Opposition in the undivided AP state, large number of TDP leaders led by him went to the Babli project construction site to express their protest for the construction of project. Officials lodged complaint with the Dharmabad police that they barged into the work site, trespassed and obstructed their official work.
Meanwhile, Mr Naidu’s son and IT Minister Nara Lokesh made it clear that the Chief Minister would appear before the court. Defending his father’s act, he said that Chandrababu Naidu went to the Babli project along with other leaders in order to do justice to the then Telangana region.
According to sources, a person in Maharashtra filed a petition in the Dharmabad court against pending of a case in the court for a long time. After hibernation of eight long years, the case was resurrected which caused political flutters in the state.
