From G.B. Road; victims were brought to the Capital on pretext of jobs

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) said that two women, who were allegedly trafficked from West Bengal, were rescued from G.B. Road on Wednesday.

The women’s commission said that the women were allegedly held captive in Yamuna Vihar, before they escaped.

“The DCW received a call on helpline number 181 from a person from Nizamuddin. He informed about the women, saying they were held captive in a house in Yamuna Vihar from where they had managed to escape. The women reached Nizamuddin, where they met the man, after which he alerted us,” said a DCW official. The DCW said that the women were brought to Delhi from Kolkata on the pretext of jobs.

“The 28-year-old woman said that she was raped by 10-15 men daily, and if she resisted, she was allegedly beaten and threatened. She was held captive at G.B. Road for over two to three months. The other women, aged 20, was also allegedly treated in a similar manner,” the DCW said.

DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal said, “I am nauseated by the collusion and apathy of the authorities towards the huge human trafficking racket operating at G.B. Road. One of the girls has severe burn marks on her neck due to the forceful application of fairness creams. The place needs to be shut down and the women should be rehabilitated”.

“We have met the girls and assured them of proper rehabilitation” she also said.
