As many as 77 buildings, majority of them houses, in the southern parts of Pathanamthitta district and Palamel village in Alappuzha district have developed cracks following mild tremors that rocked the area around 10.35 a.m. on Wednesday. Of these, 10 are in Alappuzha. Cracks on earth too were noticed in some places.
The tremors were felt in and around Pazhakulam, parts of Kurampala, and Paranthal in Adoor taluk and Nooranad and Palamel areas in Alappuzha district.
According to the police, the tremors were felt in Alappuzha around 10.30 a.m. in Adikatukulangara, Kudassanad, Palamel, Charumood, and Kurambala.
The villagers ran out of their houses, hearing a loud noise and echo that lasted only for a few seconds.
One injured
A 35-year-old worker, Abbas, who was working in the courtyard of a house at Pazhakulam, has been admitted to the Adoor General Hospital with head injuries.
