In a case of water theft, a commercial establishment was being supplied water from a domestic connection and was being charged for it.
The anti-theft squad of the Non-Revenue Water Management found that water was being siphoned off to a bakery through a line before it reached the metre.
The squad disconnected the water connection and slapped a fine of ₹3.22 lakh on the domestic user.
The squad has unearthed a number of water theft cases after the rise in temperature. Inspections in Kochi, Aluva and Kanjoor regions have found several cases of theft. Last year, ₹80 lakh was charged as fine for water theft.
To report water theft, the public can call the 24-hour control room at 0484-2361369 or the anti-theft squad at 0484-2361883.
