Gutha Sukhender may be pitted against Uttam Kumar

From organising road blockades to threatening to commit suicide, to reconsider announced MLA candidatures, members of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi are leading a rebellion in Nalgonda.

Party president K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who announced names of 105 of the 119 candidates for the upcoming elections last Thursday, had said the remaining names would be announced shortly.

And since then TRS members here, including Kodad and Huzurnagar constituencies, are keeping their fingers crossed and others expressing severe dissent. “I will end my life like my son if I am denied the ticket now,” K. Shankaramma, mother of Telangana martyr Kasoju Srikantha Chary, threatened like she did in 2014.

Competing with Shankaramma, who lost to N. Uttam Kumar Reddy by 23, 924 votes in 2014, in the Huzurnagar constituency is a local and Canada-returned S. Saidi Reddy.

The neighbouring Kodad has divided cadre, as Telugu Desam Party’s four-time MLA Venepalli Chander Rao, who joined TRS in 2014, was preferred over Kanmantha Reddy Shashidhar Reddy, a party loyal since 2010.

Sources said Nalgonda MP Gutha Sukender Reddy was being considered to checkmate Telangana Congress Committee president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy in Huzurnagar. Separate groups in Nalgonda, Miryalaguda, Devarakonda constituencies, holding secret meetings and campaigns also worries the TRS.

Most dissent was registered in Nagarjunasagar, Thungathurthy and Munugode, where opposers in the party took to the road.

Supporters of Mandula Samuel, Chairman of State Warehousing Corporations, shouted “Go back Kishore!” against sitting member Gadari Kishore Kumar during several rallies. People in Munugode organised road blockades, boycotted bike rallies, Pragathi Nivedana Sabha against Koosukuntla Prabhakar Reddy.

As of now, only Aler, Bhongir, Suryapet and Nakrekal – where a lone leader is dominant in the party, have been incident-free.
