AGRA/FIROZABAD: A man was arrested on Thursday for killing his 11-month-old son in UP's Firozabad.

Mohit Gupta (28), a resident of Baldeo Road under Tundla police jurisdiction, allegedly threw his son in a 12-foot-deep nullah of NH-2 near Yamuna river (Rambgah square) under Itmad-ud-daula police jurisdiction of Agra district on Tuesday morning at around 3am.

According to police, the accused later on Tuesday night informed his wife Varsha about the murder of their son Laddo.

Sanjay Verma, circle officer of Tundla, said, “Since childhood, Mohit had been living with his aunt’s (Been Gupta) family and four years back he tied knot with Varsha. Frustrated at being unemployed and ill-treated by relatives for depending on aunt’s family earning, the accused became depressed. During interrogation, the accused claimed that he gave mukti (salvation) to his son, freeing him from all pains and insult he would have had to undergo like him.”

“While speaking to investigation officers, the accused showed no remorse for killing his son. Instead, he smiled at certain points. We are not sure whether he is mentally unstable or just a cold-blooded murderer, who avoided taking responsibility of his son and wife,” added CO, Tundla.

Neeraj Gupta, an elder cousin of Mohit, said, “We still can’t believe he killed his son. He was a bit psycho but polite and reserved as well, who never hurt even an animal. On Monday afternoon (September 10) at around 3:30pm, after an argument with wife, he left home along with his son who was having fever. After he did not return home by late night, we informed local police. On Tuesday night, he called on phone and said that he had left Laddo in Agra’s Itmad-ud-daula area.”

The Gupta family was about to celebrate Laddo's birthday on Oct 14.

The Gupta family, which runs two grocery stores in Tundla, was about to celebrate Laddo's birthday on October 14 and had sent scores of birthday party cards to relatives.

“We immediately contacted Itmad-ud-daula police, who informed us about the death of Laddo. We don’t know why he killed his son,” added Neeraj Gupta.

According to relatives, Mohit’s father Rana Pratap Gupta left him at his aunt’s home when he was merely one-year-old, as his mother Santosh Gupta had died of illness.

On Thursday, Tundla police arrested him and sent him jail. He was booked under IPC section 302 (murder).
