Nagpur: Shiv Sena has continued to take on the ruling BJP in Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). In the latest case, Sena activists have condemned its alliance partner in state and Centre for not facilitating toilet for girl students at the civic body-run school at Tajabad in South Nagpur.
Sena activists led by president and former MP Prakash Jadhav, corporators Kishor Kumeriya, Mangala Gavre, Nitin Tiwari and others staged demonstration at the school on Tuesday. They gave ultimatum of 48 hours for providing toilets for girls as well as boys at the school.
The students said they have to request people residing in nearby locality for using toilets. “Toilet room is abandoned for last five years. There is only one functioning toilet and that is used by the staff,” they said.
Tiwari told TOI school exposes BJP claims of entire state turning open defecation free. “School is situated in the area represented by BJP corporators. MLA from South Nagpur is also from BJP and is also party’s city president. None of them have paid heed to the students’ problems,” he said.
Tiwari said school was having a strength of 400 students including 239 girl students. “School premises is also in filthy condition. School gets drinking water through tankers that too once in a week. Students have to drink water stored for six days. School also faces trouble from anti-social elements as it has no gate,” he said.
NMC assistant commissioner Rajesh Karade directed the engineers to build a toilet here as soon as possible.
Raju Tumsare, Ramcharan Dubey, Rajesh Korke, Chintu Maharaj, Rajesh Kanojia, Jagatram Sinha, Pravin Sharma, Sanjog Rathod, Mangesh Kadhao, Sulekha Khobragade, Sanjana Deshmukh, Pritam Kapse, Abbas Ali, Vikram Rathod, Sandip Patel, Manoj Shahu, Vishal Wanjale and others were present during the agitation.
Since Jadhav took over as city president, Sena has been continuously attacking BJP-ruled NMC. Jadhav had even demanded dissolution of BJP run civic body a couple of months ago.
