LUDHIANA: Rain lashed the city on Wednesday bringing the much needed respite for the residents from hot and humid weather. The good news for them is that the met department predicts chances of light to moderate rainfall in the city in the next two days.
As per met department, rainfall in the city from 8.30am to 5.30pm on Wednesday was recorded at 6mm. As it rained around 1pm, followed by overcast condition for about an hour, weather turned pleasant due to fall in temperature.
The met department recorded the maximum (day) temperature in city at 30.2 degrees Celsius, which is three degrees less than normal and 3.5 degrees less than on Tuesday. Since the rainfall occurred in afternoon, it’s impact didn’t reflect on minimum (night) temperature and the same was recorded at 25.4 degrees Celsius, which is two degrees more than normal value and same as on Tuesday. The relative
humidity in city on Friday was also recorded around normal at 82%.
As the rainfall brought happiness on the faces of residents, the met department prediction is expected to cheer them up further. A met department official at Chandigarh said there are chances of light to moderate rainfall in Ludhiana within the next two days. He added that during this time, temperature is expected to drop.
In the meanwhile, met department website suggested that the day temperature might decrease to 32 degrees Celsius till Friday whereas night temperature is expected to fall to 24 degrees Celsius till the same day. The residents meanwhile are enjoying the pleasant weather in the city.
“It was getting hotter and humid during the last two days so we desperately waiting for it to rain. Rain, be it for a short duration of time, accompanied with the overcast sky brought the much needed respite to us. Till Wednesday morning we were using air conditioners at home and at work but are managing with fans now as it is not hot,” said Rakesh Jain, a trader from
Civil Lines.
The children also were happy with the changed weather in city.
“After returning from school, I saw dust storm and later it started pouring heavily. It was wonderful a sight to behold,” said Harmeet Singh, a nine-year-old from Pakhowal Road.
