Vadodara: Three policemen from Navapura police station were attacked at when they went to shut down a DJ during a Ganesh procession in Kumbharwada locality in Lalbaug area on Wednesday midnight.
Police arrested 14 accused including Shyam Sonar, Deepak alias Gamad Rathod, Rakesh Vaishnav, Mahendra Shinde, Rushabh alias Pavu Pawar, Ganesh alias Babu Pawar, Akshay Salunke, Rahul Chaudhary, Ravi Shinde, Deepak alias Deepa Machhi, Sanjay Pimpalkar, Kiran Machhi, Nitin Shedge and Jyoti Pawar. Cops said that all accused live in the same area where the ruckus took place.
Police control room had received a call around 10.30 pm on Wednesday from a private hospital near Kumbharwada about the loudspeaker being played during a Ganesh procession. On receiving the call, a PCR van of Navapura police station reached there and shut down the DJ music. But after the cops left they again started to playing the music. The control room again received the call about the menace around midnight.
Assistant sub-inspectors Gindubhai Varjubhai and Arvind Chhaktarbhai and police constable Hamir Vajabhai again went to the same place where the DJ was being played. Police said that when Gindubhai and Hamir asked the accused to shut down the DJ, they started hurling abuses at them. On being asked not to use such language, the mob started thrashing Hamir and even tore his uniform. According to police, the mob also pelted stone at the PCR car damaging its windshield.
Meanwhile, additional force of cops reached there as Arvind had informed the control room about the ruckus. Seeing the police, the mob fled from there, but Sonar was held. Later, he informed the police about involvement of all other accused.
Police nabbed all other accused on Wednesday after combing the area.
