One injured in firing at Surat railway station

SURAT: A 23-year-old man suffered bullet injuries after a criminal opened fire at the platform number one of Surat railway station late on Thursday.

The attacker fired around four rounds of which two bullets hit the man, police sources informed. The injured person and the attacker are history sheeters and the attack was a follout of a gangwar.

Police booked Sarfaraz alias Shibu Tiger, a resident of Pardmavati society in Limbayat, for allegedly firing at Mohammad Yusuf Khan, a resident of the same locality. The accused was present at the platform when Yusuf got down from Ranakpur Express. The victim had returned from Mumbai and Sarfaraz had exact information about his movement.

Police investigation revealed that the attacker wanted to kill the man. Sarfaraz managed to escape from the spot and a hunt is on to nab him.

“The attacker has been identified by the police and attempts are on to nab him. It is a rivalry between two gangs,” informed a police officer. Police are examining CCTV footage to trace the accused.

The victim was admitted to Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER) and was later, he was shifted to a private hospital due to his critical condition.
