Bandra police recovered stolen scooter

A vehicle thief was caught at a routine nakabandi conducted to take action against rash drivers on Wednesday morning. The police also recovered a scooter stolen in Kandivali on Tuesday evening.

According to the Bandra police, the nakabandi was set up near Bandra Reclamation on Tuesday evening, to be enforced till Wednesday morning.

Around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, assistant sub inspector Arun Chavan and constable Sanjay Prabhu, who were enforcing the nakabandi, noticed a scooter heading their way. However, the rider turned around before he could reach the nakabandi, which made the cops suspicious.

‘No traffic’

“Mr. Chavan and Mr. Prabhu chased after the scooter when they found the rider’s actions suspicious. As there was no traffic at the time, the suspect was nabbed after a short, five-minute chase,” senior police inspector Girish Anavkar of Bandra police station said.

The suspect, identified as Vikas Karade (20), was questioned and allegedly confessed to having stolen the scooter from Kandivali on Tuesday evening.

He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with motor vehicle theft under the Indian Penal Code.
