Electric Vehicles are the future and with the Government on your side, the need to get a product out in the market as early as possible is what will help pave the way forward for automotive manufacturers in the future. While we hear stories of international manufacturers already offering electric vehicles in other markets, the Indian market so far has only witnessed vehicles from Mahindra and Tata Motors entering this domain. Hyundai has made a big commitment to include an E-SUV in their portfolio and now we hear that the country’s largest car manufacturer, namely Maruti Suzuki, is testing their fleet of electric vehicles.
What Maruti Suzuki has to say about their EV fleet
Speaking on the initiative, Mr Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India said, “Maruti Suzuki is committed to bring Electric Vehicle in 2020. The testing in multiple terrains and climatic conditions will help us get valuable insights from real life driving conditions. With these tests, we are confident that our Electric Vehicle will be well accepted by our valued customers.”
Electric Maruti Suzuki Vehicles – What you need to know
Maruti Suzuki is working towards launching an electric vehicle in the Indian market by 2020. Final testing of their EVs has already begun and from the looks of it, the car is based on the WagonR, however we do believe that the EV fleet includes other popular MSIL models as well.
With this fleet, Maruti Suzuki is gathering customer inputs in order to leave no stone unturned when they eventually do launch these cars in the market. After all, the acceptance of EVs depends on many parameters including range and overall cost of ownership. Based on these critical inputs, MSIL is looking at offering a suitable electric vehicle for the masses.
No doubt, these are interesting times, however the EV industry also needs the right infrastructure to be in place to help drive sales. On that front, we are yet to see any real development from the Government, however India is a market that has managed to surprise many time and time again. We hope for the best as the nation moves towards more sustainable mobility solutions.
