AHMEDABAD: A 55-year-old man was allegedly abducted by three men, who introduced themselves as Gandhinagar crime branch officials, when he was giving a woman who he thought was in need a lift, near Nana Chiloda in Gandhinagar.

The man was confined for four hours by the men who demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh. The four later drove him to his sister’s house in Bodakdev. When he was about to give them the Rs 50,000 they had demanded, the kidnappers fled away with his car, worth about Rs 4 lakh.

On Wednesday afternoon, Jani went to the university on SG Road and headed to an automobile agency in Nana Chiloda. Near Nana Chiloda, he saw a woman of about 40, waving him down for a lift.

When he stopped and asked her what she wanted, the woman told him that her child was unwell and she urgently needed help to get to Himmatnagar. She asked Jani to drop her at Mota Chiloda.

As Jani started driving towards Mota Chiloda, he was soon stopped by four men — who were impersonating crime branch personnel.

They started threatening him while alleging that he had abducted the woman. Jani took half an hour to convince them that he had not abducted the woman rather she had asked for a lift,” the FIR states.

One of the four cops made the woman sit pillion on his motorcycle and they left the spot.

The other three men took control of his car, pushed him into the backseat and took him to the room of a dharamshala near Mota Chiloda, on Himmatnagar Road.

One of the three had a revolver and he put the weapon to his back demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh. The three beat him and took Rs 50,000 and his mobile phone from him. They later made him to call his sister, Dr Hina Oza and his brother-in-law Dr Vipul Oza, reads the complaint.

At around 6pm on Wednesday, the three decided to take Jani to his sister’s house at Pushpvan Flats in Bodakdev.

The dropped Jani off and told him to get money from Oza. Jani asked for his car keys and mobile, but they refused to give them to him. Jani then went to his sister and asked for the money. She took about 10 minutes and gave him Rs 50,000, but by the time he got back, the men and his car had vanished.
