‘Ready to quit if allegations are proved’

Municipal Administration Minister S.P. Velumani said here on Wednesday that he was ready to resign from the Cabinet as well as the party and quit politics, if the allegations against him were proved.

He asked if DMK president and Opposition leader M.K. Stalin was ready to resign if he failed to prove the corruption charges in the Municipal Administration Department.

“Is he ready to handover the baton to either his party treasurer Duraimurugan or brother Alagiri,” he asked reporters.

The Minister said he was not duty-bound to answer the DMK organising secretary R.S. Bharathi, who was running errands for Mr. Stalin.

Vaiko raises questions

Meanwhile, MDMK leader Vaiko has joined issue with Municipal Administration Minister S.P.Mr. Velumani over the allegations of corruption and nepotism against the latter.

“Is Mr. Velumani denying that he had not awarded contracts to those close to him as revealed by the media,” he asked mediapersons here on Wednesday.

“He did give those contracts [to those close to him],” Mr. Vaiko alleged.
