NABADWIP: A devotee died after being pushed by a monkey from a temple’s roof. The incident occurred at Gour Gopinath temple in Nadia’s Nabadwip on Wednesday morning.

Police said victim Saraswati Das (45) of Singur Ghanashyampur in Hooghly had gone to the temple with a relative. “She was praying on the first-floor roof with her eyes closed, when the monkey that was running about pushed her,” said Sachinandan Das of the temple.

Das added that the woman was sitting near the edge of the roof when she fell and sustained head injury. She was taken to Nabadwip Hospital where the doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Monkeys are a major menace in and around Nabadwip. Locals complain that monkeys destroy crops, particularly fruits and vegetables. They also steal prasad form the many temples in the area and enter residents’ home.
