Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort has reached a tentative plea agreement with special counsel Robert Mueller to avert an upcoming trial, ABC News reported late Thursday. CNN also reported the two sides were near a plea agreement. The deal is expected to be announced in court Friday, ABC reported, though it was unclear if he will agree to cooperate with prosecutors in the investigation into Russian election interference. Last month, Manafort was convicted on eight counts of bank and tax fraud. His upcoming second criminal trial, scheduled to start next week, involves charges of fraud and failing to report as a foreign agent.
