Kerala's Nedumangadu taluk raises Rs 4 crore for flood relief in 3 hours

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The fund collection drive held at Nedumangadu taluk as part of rebuilding works raised Rs 4.25 crore in just three hours.

The drive was held at the Municipal Town Hall and was led by minister for tourism and devaswom Kadakampally Surendran. Karakulam gram panchayat handed over the highest amount- Rs 50 lakh.

Nedumangadu taluk office donated over Rs 42 lakh while Nedumangadu municipality collected Rs 25 lakh. Aruvikkara panchayat raised Rs 25 lakh while Kallara, Nanniyodu, Panavur, Nellanadu and Tholikkode panchayat gave Rs 10 lakh each.

Various residents associations, organisations, educational institutions also contributed to the fund collection drive.

Folk song singer and mimicry artist Santosh Babu and his group handed over Rs one lakh which they had collected through their performance. He said that they were happy to have contributed in a humble way.

The district has so far collected Rs 7 crore for the Chief Minister Disaster Relief Fund. An amount of Rs 2.85 crore was raised from Thiruvananthapuram taluk. The drive will continue in four other taluks on Friday and Saturday.
