The Designing Women Sequel Is One Step Closer to Becoming a Reality

Just one day after Designing Women creator Linda Bloodworth Thomason penned an emotional personal essay about recently ousted CBS boss Leslie Moonves keeping her shows off the air for seven years, a sequel to the successful sitcom is one step closer to becoming a reality. According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC has purchased the script from Bloodworth Thomason and executive producer Harry Thomason.

The Designing Women sequel, which will be a multi-camera series like the original, will feature a new generation of women working as interior designers in Atlanta, Georgia, with original cast popping in from time to time. If ABC likes the new take, it will produce the pilot episode before deciding whether to order the series for next season.

Where You've Seen the Cast of Young Sheldon Before

Dixie Carter, Delta Burke, Annie Potts, Jean Smart and Meshach Taylor starred in the original series, which aired on CBS from 1986 to 1993. The series tackled hot-button issues like sexism, homophobia and racism, and it sounds like the sequel series would do much of the same.

Although it was incredibly popular, Designing Women took home just one Emmy over the course in its tenure (for hairstyling, in 1988), but it earned a solid 16 nominations over the course of its run.
