HYDERABAD:
Congress leader and former Kodangal MLA
Revanth Reddy was slapped with a notice by
Jubilee Hills police to appear before them in a pending decade-old criminal case related to irregularities committed by the then officer bearers of Jubilee Hills Housing Society (JHHS).
Interestingly, the Jubilee Hills police, who have been dragging their feet for over 10 years by not filing a chargesheet, suddenly issued notices when opposition parties have been accusing the TRS of misusing state machinery to target political rivals. Senior police officials told TOI the notice was issued to Revanth Reddy three days ago, asking him to appear within 15 days and give an explanation. The notice was issued under Section 41 of CrPC. However, Revanth requested the Jubilee Hills police to give him three weeks as he is busy with preparations for elections.
“We issued notices to nine members, including Revanth Reddy. He has sought additional time and we need to take a decision,” a police officer said.
The case pertains to 2004, wherein the complainant, Rama Rao, knocked the doors of various forums, including High Court, citing inaction on part of Jubilee Hills police, who failed to complete the investigation.
The notice to Revanth Reddy gains political significance in the backdrop of state elections.
On Tuesday, Congress
Sangareddy district ex-MLA Jagga Reddy was arrested in a passport-related fraud case.
