Was tortured and forced to live in an animal shed

A 30-year-old woman from Punjab, who was allegedly sold as a domestic help in Oman, returned to India on Monday.

The woman had gone to Oman nine months ago through a Jalandhar-based travel agent in search of greener pastures. After reaching the UAE, the woman was sent to Muscat in Oman where she was allegedly sold to a landlord for domestic work.

Talking to reporters, the victim claimed that she was tortured and forced to live in an animal shed. The woman alleged that she used to do work from morning till night without any break and was not given enough food by the landlord.

She managed to come back home with the help of ‘Sarbat Da Bhalla’ Trust run by Dubai-based businessman S.P. Singh Oberoi, who secured her release in exchange of money to the landlord.
