Cape Town -  A Premier Soccer League (PSL) disciplinary committee has found Kaizer Chiefs guilty in regard to the fan violence that erupted at Moses Mabhida stadium in April.

Amakhosi fans broke through a chain of security guards after Free State Stars handed the Soweto giants a 2-0 Nedbank Cup semi-final defeat in April.

They proceeded to destroy parts of the stadium as well as broadcasting equipment. 

Police were forced to use tear gas as well as stun grenades to bring everything under control as then-Chiefs coach Steve Komphela announced his immediate resignation shortly thereafter. 

Chiefs will now play three matches (one of which has been suspended for a period of 24 months) behind closed doors and the matches must be played at a venue in KwaZulu-Natal.

"The Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee has found Kaizer Chiefs guilty and ordered that they play three matches behind closed doors with one (of the three) matches suspended for a period of 24 months provided Kaizer Chiefs is not found guilty of a similar offence.

This follows the sitting of the Disciplinary Committee arising from the events of April 21, 2018 at Moses Mabhida Stadium during the Nedbank Cup match against Free State Stars where supporters of Kaizer Chiefs invaded the pitch and caused damage to property.
