Nagpur: City police have arrested 30-year-old Ghanshyam Madavi for allegedly trying to chop off colleague Radheshyam Sarate’s private parts and slit his throat following a drunken brawl in the bathroom of a bar near Maharajbagh in the early hours of Monday. A team of Sitabuldi police nabbed Madavi from Mandla at Madhya Pradesh where he had fled after the incident.
Police said the incident came to fore on Monday when the owner went to the bar, which was closed on the occasion of Pola. He was stunned to see a semi-naked body of Sarate in the bathroom with deep injuries on neck and private parts. There were blood stains on the floor and elsewhere at the bar.
An injured Radheshyam was shifted to Mayo hospital by the bar owner. Cops said the attack is likely to have taken place in the wee hours of Monday. The cell phone location of Madavi was Ramtek at 9am on Tuesday. The cops left for MP after they traced him at sister’s place.
Police said Sarate claimed in his statement that Madavi attacked him for not allowing to consume more liquor when he was clamouring for it. He also said that he didn’t remember much details of what had transpired between him and Madavi which triggered the attack as both were under the influence of liquor.
Sitabuldi police, who had registered the case as attempt to murder, is now waiting for their team to reach city with Madavi.
