TRICHY: A seven-year-old girl from
Ramanathapuram district, who was in her relatives’ place here, was hospitalised after a
stray dog mauled her on Monday.
Jiginima, a Class II student from Erwadi, and her mother, K Aamina, visited her aunt’s home in Valluvar Street near Natharshah Dargah on Monday. Jiginima stepped out of her aunt’s house to go to a community toilet when the stray dog mauled her.
“A ferocious stray dog attacked the girl though she was walking calmly. We tried our best to ward the animal off. But the girl sustained severe injuries on her head and hand,” said A Dhinakaran, resident of Valluvar Street.
Jiginima was rushed to a private hospital where she received more than five stitches. The condition of the girl was said to be stable.
On being informed about the accident,
Trichy Corporation officials said stray fogs in the ward and nearby streets would be neutered. Violent dogs would be kept under observation, they added.
