Dharwad: The University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad is getting ready to host the 30th edition of the four-day Krishi Mela-2018 from September 22. Director of Extension R R Patil said the theme of this year’s mela will be ‘Use nutricereals: Save Health’. The main focus will be on creating awareness about the importance of nutricereals, he added.
The event aims to disseminate information on the recent research developments in
agriculture and allied fields to the farming community.
The sprawling campus on Dharwad-Belgaum road wears a festive look with large number of stalls and attractive pandals adding to the serene atmosphere.
Nearly 10 lakh
farmers, farm women and people from different walks of life are expected to participate in the four-day event, according to Patil. The mela will also feature an exhibition on farmers’ innovations, agro-forestry, bio-fuel crops and improved livestock breeds. Demonstration of organic farming systems, integrated farming systems for sustainable agriculture, nutrient management, bio-fertilizer and soil health care, will also be organized.
Seminars, workshops and live demonstrations on dry land technologies for enhancement of yield, models on rain water harvesting, ground water recharging, water conservation practices and water shed development activities will be organized during the mela.
Eminent scientists, researchers and progressive farmers will interact with farmers and exchange information on new technologies available in the market for taking up hassle-free cultivation. Fruits and flower show and soil and water analysis and exhibition of value-added products of millets, dog and cattle show will be added attractions.
The sprawling UAS campus will have nearly 450 stalls which will showcase farm equipment.
The ‘Shrestha Krishika' (Best farmer) and 'Shrestha Krishi Mahile' (Best farmwoman) awards will be presented to farmers from 10 districts of North Karnataka.
