CHANDIGARH: A liquor vend owner was allegedly robbed of Rs 3.5 lakh at gunpoint near the Sector 33-34 light point on Sunday night.
Kulvir Singh, a resident of Sector 79, Mohali, was going home with the day’s collection in his car when a Toyota Innova SUV and a Maruti Swift car blocked his way, the complaint alleged. “The vehicle occupants alighted and one of them pointed a gun at me, took away Rs 3.50 lakh and sped away,” Kulvir alleged. He immediately called up the cops. A police team, including Sector 34 station house officer and a crime branch inspector, reached the spot.
Assistant superintendent of police (ASP) was also informed. A message was flashed at all the barriers, neighbouring states and toll plazas, but the accused could not be caught.
Kulvir said he owns two liquor vends in sectors 21 and 27. He regularly comes to Chandigarh to collect the daily collection from his liquor vends and then goes home.
Inspector Ajay Kumar, station house officer, Sector 34 police, said, “We have not registered a case right now. Investigation is going on. We are looking into all the aspects.”
Deputy superintendent of police (crime) Pawan Kumar said, “We are verifying the facts. A DDR (daily diary report) has been registered. A case would be registered after verifying the allegations of the liquor vend owner.”
