I was surprised when I heard about Phil Neville ’s comments on the derby this week.
And I also found what he said pretty strange.
Some people just don't seem to be able to handle derbies and I think it gives you an insight into players’ minds.
I loved derby games, at every club I played for .

And whenever the fixture list came out the derby games were the first I looked for, I couldn’t wait to see when Everton played Liverpool , Celtic and United .
Phil says the derby was overhyped, he’s right, but I loved the hype and though it was just three points, I knew full well that whoever I was playing for, it meant much more than that to the supporters.
Perhaps Neville doesn’t feel the same about derbies because, growing up, Man City were never a challenge to United, but I still found what he said strange.
I loved derbies as a player and still love them now.
