Tirupur: Two youths were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the murder of a 35-year-old moneylender in the city.
The Tirupur north police arrested Gobinath and Senthamizhan, both 18-years-old, for stabbing C Elangovan of Cotton Mill Road in Srinagar to death on Monday. “Elangovan was running a hotel at Pommanaickenpalayam and also involved in money lending business. He had lent Rs 35,000 to Dhamodaran of Thiruneelakandapuram. On Monday, Elangovan went to collect money from Dhamodaran but the latter picked up a quarrel with him, following which Elangovan reportedly beaten up Dhamodaran. When Elangovan was on the way back to his home along with his friend M Kaliyappan on a motorcycle, Dhamodaran, along with his friends Gobinath and Senthamizhan stabbed him using needles used for stitching sacks,” a police officer said.
Elangovan was declared dead at the Tirupur Government hospital. Kaliyappan also sustained minor injuries in the attack.
Police are on the lookout for Dhamodaran. TNN
