NHRC issues notices to State govt, police

Seeks detailed reports within 4 weeks

Taking suo motu cognisance of media reports, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Monday issued notices to the Delhi government and the Delhi Police over the deaths of workers at DLF Capital Greens on Sunday.

The workers allegedly died after inhaling toxic gases in the tank that they were cleaning. The NHRC has sought detailed reports from the Delhi government Chief Secretary and the Commissioner of Delhi Police within four weeks.

“The Commission would also like to know about the action taken against the authorities responsible in the matter along with measures taken for relief and rehabilitation of the next of kin of the deceased persons,” the NHRC said in a statement.

The NHRC had been stressing upon authorities to provide safety gear to the workers. “The incident has occurred in the national Capital. Due to negligence by the authorities and the contractor concerned, the right to life of innocent persons has been violated,” the statement said.
