Anushka Sharma is suffering from bulging disc; know all about it

| Updated: Sep 11, 2018, 17:39 IST
Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma--who is currently busy promoting her upcoming film Sui Dhaaga-- has reportedly been diagnosed with bulging disc.
It seems that venturing into production and doing back to back movies has taken a toll on the actress.

The 'Pari' actress is said to be in severe pain due to bulging disc--also known as slipped disc-- and is advised complete rest.

Irrespective of the fact that doctors have advised Anushka against moving, she is still completely preoccupied with the promotions of her upcoming venture Sui Dhaaga with Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan.

Why does it happen?

While the most common cause of bulging disc is ageing, it happens when the outer layer of the disc bulges into the spinal canal. While bulging disc can affect any part of the spine, it is most common in upper (cervical) and lower (lumbar) parts.

Other causes of the bulging disc are:

1. Repetitive lifting, standing, bending or driving
2. Excessive body weight
3. Improper lifting techniques
4. Severe injury

Symptoms of bulging disc:

Some of the most common symptoms of a bulging disc are:
1. Stinging pain in the hips, buttocks, neck etc.
2. Muscle spasms
3. Weakness
4. Numbness

Treatment:

The usual treatments for a slipped disc include physiotherapy, warm and cold compressions, medications, and exercise in addition to taking rest.

While a very mild slip disc may be able to heal itself, surgery may be required if all the treatments fail.
