Snap stock gains after Wedbush upgrade

Snap Inc. shares are up 2% in premarket trading Tuesday after Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter upgraded the stock to outperform from neutral and raised his price target to $12.25 from $11.50. "Negative free cash flow and a high portion of stock-based compensation relative to revenue has kept us on the sidelines, but the departure of [Chief Strategy Officer Imran Khan and Chief Financial Officer Drew Vollero] and their replacement by seasoned financial professionals increases our confidence that Snap can turn the corner in the foreseeable future," Pachter wrote. "The company has a significant opportunity to align its strategic priorities with those of its shareholders and to articulate those goals in a much more consistent and clear way." While other analysts have argued that Khan's departure, announced Monday, was a negative for the company, Pachter thinks it will help Snap "significantly improve its execution." Shares are down 36% over the past 12 months, while the S&P 500 has gained 16%.

Snap faces major challenge when it comes to replacing Imran Khan, analyst says

Snap faces major challenge when it comes to replacing Imran Khan, analyst says Snap Inc. shares are down 1.5% in Monday morning trading after the company said that Imran Khan, its chief strategy officer, would be leaving the company. This is a "difficult time to fill a big role," Evercore ISI analyst Anthony DiClemente wrote following the news of Khan's departure. "Filling the position could be a major challenge, not only because of the breadth of responsibilities, but also given intensifying competitive pressure from Instagram," owned by Facebook Inc. . He said Khan was known to be very involved in recruiting, business development, and communication with investors. Khan's resignation "likely places incremental pressure on founder and CEO Evan Spiegel," as well as other top members of management, DiClemente wrote. Snap has seen significant top-level turnover in the past year. Shares are off 37% over the past 12 months, while the S&P 500 has gained 17%.

Snap Chief Strategy Officer Imran Khan is latest exec to leave to pursue other opportunities

Snapchat parent Snap Inc. shares slid more than 2% in premarket trade Monday, after the company said its chief strategy officer has become the latest executive to leave the company. Imran Khan, who took on the role in 2015, has not yet set a departure date, but has decided to leave to pursue other opportunities, the company said in a regulatory filing. Khan will continue to serve through an interim period to ensure a smooth transition. The departure is not based on any disagreement over strategy or accounting, said the filing. Khan is the latest executive to jump ship. In May, then CFO Andrew Vollero left and in February, then head of sales Jeff Lucas left after less than two years. Snap shares have fallen 32% in 2018, while the S&P 500 has gained 7.4%.

Twitter leads social-media stocks downward a day after Capitol Hill testimony

Twitter Inc. shares are down 5.7% in the session and Facebook Inc. shares are off 3.2%, a day after both companies sent executives to testify on Capitol Hill about election interference and other issues of security pertaining to these platforms. "While exchanges between legislators and tech executives were more amiable than what we heard previously, it was impossible not to come away with greater conviction that social media's opex/capex investments in tools to address bad actors on their platforms are likely to maintain an aggressive trajectory, as Facebook and Twitter strive to show they are trying their best to remedy these issues," Evercore ISI analyst Anthony DiClemente wrote Thursday. Google parent Alphabet Inc. declined to send a senior executive to testify in person, which DiClemente said "may prove to be a misstep" as members of Congress seemed annoyed by the absence. Alphabet's stock is down 2.2%. Snap Inc. shares are trading in single-digit territory for the first time, though the company isn't generally subject to the same fake-news and election-interference scrutiny as its larger peers. The Global X Social Media Index ETF is down 5.6% so far this year, while the S&P 500 has gained 7.5%.

Snap stock trades in single digits for first time

Shares of Snap Inc. are off 4.1% in Thursday's session, trading in single-digit territory for the first time in the company's history. The stock is on track to post its seventh-straight day of losses, or its 14th straight daily decline in the past 17 trading sessions. Cascend Securities analyst Eric Ross wrote midday Wednesday that the Snapchat app downloads were down on a year-over-year basis and that the company's ad business "appears to be in disarray." Also on Wednesday, the company introduced new, more mainstream versions of its Spectacles glasses. Snap's stock price decline on Thursday comes amid weakness for social-media shares in general; the Global X Social Media ETF is off 2.1% in the session. Snap's stock is down 34% so far this year, while the S&P 500 has risen 7.5%.

Snap stock hits new all-time low, company unveils new styles of Spectacles

Shares of Snap Inc. hit a new all-time low in intraday trading Wednesday and are on track to close at the lowest levels in the company's history. Shares changed hands at $10.27 earlier in the session and registered a recent price of $10.30, below their $10.55 closing price from late May. Also on Wednesday, the company unveiled two new styles of Spectacles glasses, which look more like traditional sunglasses than the company's prior styles. The stock is off 29% over the past 12 months, while the S&P 500 has gained 17%.
