Collector K.S.Kandasamy, the chairperson of the Vidyalaya Management Committee of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Tiruvannamalai, has relieved Kumar Thakur, charged under POCSO Act, from the post of principal of the school in the district. He took charge on August 13.
As chairman of the committee, the Collector said he has used his power to relieve him from the post.
“I have sent a written communication to him today relieving him from the post of principal. I have also sent a requisition to Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan to appoint a new principal at the earliest,” he said.
Arrested in January
“The principal should not be posted again till he proves his innocence,” Mr. Kandasamy said.
Charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act were framed against Thakur when he was the principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Hebbal, in Bengaluru.
He was arrested on January 31, and released on bail the next day. The trial in the case is under way. On February 7, he was transferred to Kendriya Vidyalaya, Karwar, a move several child rights activists in Bangalore objected to. The sangathan conducted an internal inquiry after which he was suspended.
