CHANDIGARH: The
district court here on Monday sentenced a father-son duo to 10 years in prison each in connection with a March 2014 seizure of 9.6kh opium.
Gurdeet Singh and his son, Gurdarshan Singh, were arrested after the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized the drugs from the Tata Indica car they were travelling in near the Sector 40-41 roundabout on March 14 that year. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on each of them.
The accused were caught at a check post which was laid following a tip-off. The contraband had been kept in a black-coloured bag under the front seat of the car. At that time, Gurdarshan had informed the NCB that the drugs had been smuggled in from Rajasthan, and they had collected the contraband from a parking lot in Zirakpur.
Though the defence lawyer had claimed that the duo were framed in the case, the court held them guilty.
