West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday alleged that the Ramakrishna Mission was “threatened” to cancel the event to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s speech at Chicago on August 26.
The programme, in which Ms. Banerjee was invited as chief guest, was organised by the Vivekananda Vedanta Society of Chicago.
Ms. Banerjee alleged that some “unholy conspiracy” was hatched to stop her from attending the event. “I am not blaming the Ramakrishna Mission. But as far as I know they were threatened in several ways.,” said Ms. Banerjee, while speaking at an event at Belur Math, the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math.
