HYDERABAD: Opposition parties Congress, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and CPI on Tuesday agreed to form a ‘Maha Kutami’ (grand alliance) against the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in the state assembly elections.

Telangana Congress president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said after discussions between the three parties that they would wait for like-minded outfits such as M Kodandaram’s Telangana Jana Samithi, other Left parties and Bahujan Left Front to join the ‘Maha Kutami’. Seat sharing talks would begin once the other parties join, he added.

“It was decided to work out a common minimum programme of all the political parties in the alliance and this programme would be included in the election manifesto of the ‘Maha Kutami’, in addition to the manifestoes of the respective political parties,” said Reddy. He added that the main objective of the alliance was to end “the evil and autocratic rule of the KCR-family in Telangana”.

It was decided a public meeting would be held once more parties join ‘Maha Kutami’.

TDP Telangana unit president L Ramana said the grand alliance has been necessitated to defeat TRS “which is not allowing opposition and the general public to raise their voice against the state government”.
