Man held for sending lewd texts, threatening colleague

PUNE: A 28-year-old man (name withheld) was arrested on Monday for stalking his colleague by sending her lewd messages and threatening her using different social networking websites since August.
The complainant (28), a newly-married resident of Sinhagad Road, has lodged a complaint with the Wakad police station against the suspect. The two work for a software company in Hinjewadi IT Park.

The suspect used to send lewd messages and threatened her husband when he tried to intervene, the victim complaint stated.

“The two stayed in the same housing society on Sinhagad road before the victim got married. They used to travel together in the same cab and eventually became good friends,” assistant inspector of Wakad police SB Patil told TOI.

The suspect soon developed feelings for the victim. He tried to woo her by sending text messages. “The woman was already engaged during the time and informed the suspect that would not tolerate such messages,” Patil said.

Even after the woman got married, the suspect continued to send the lewd and obscene messages text messages. “The woman then discussed the issue with her husband. However, when the woman’s husband confronted him and requested him to stop sending the messages, the suspect threatened them,” Patil added.

After the suspect continued to threaten the couple using different messaging services, the woman lodged a complaint. An offence has been registered against the man under the sections 354 (D) (Stalking) and 507 (Criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code, the punishment for which includes imprisonment up to three and two years respectively.
