Namibian captain leave Sharks, heads for France

2018-09-11 14:01

Cape Town - The Sharks’ Namibian centre Johan Deysel is set to leave the Durbanites to play club rugby in France.

According Netwerk24, Deysel played his last match for the Sharks in last Friday’s 28-12 Currie Cup win over Griquas in Kimberley.

He has signed a deal with the US Colomiers club, who play in the Pro D2, the second tier of French professional rugby.

The 26-year-old has played 22 Tests for Namibia and made headlines when he scored their only try in a 58-14 loss to the All Blacks at the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England.

Before joining the Sharks in 2017, Deysel played for the Leopards and NWU Pukke between 2013 and 2016.

He made his Test debut against Kenya in Windhoek in 2013 and his most recent international was against the same opponents last month when he captained Namibia to a 53-28 win in Windhoek.

The win saw Namibia qualify for next year’s Rugby World Cup in Japan, where they will be in Pool B alongside South Africa, New Zealand, Italy and a yet to be determined repechage winner.
