VADODARA: If you are dancing to the tunes of ‘Munni badnaam hui’ during Ganesh immersion day in the city, chances are that the cops will shut down the DJ system.

In a bid to crack down on vulgar songs played during Ganesh immersions, police have decided to penalize the DJs playing such music. City police commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut said the DJ Association too has submitted a similar letter to the police.

“We have received requests from many quarters for stopping vulgar songs played during Ganesh festivals and immersions. So we have decided to monitor the DJ music played during Ganesh immersions. The DJ system that play such songs will be stopped,” Gahlaut told TOI. The police said their teams will be out in different areas listening to the DJ music.

“The DJs deposit Rs10,000 with the police department for permission to play music. If any DJ is found playing vulgar songs, we will forfeit the deposit too,” Gahlaut added. When asked how the police will decide which song is vulgar, Gahlaut said it can be easily identified.

Police will also ensure that the sound of DJ music isn’t too loud. “We have got complaints of disturbance by loud DJ music and even the old houses shake due to it. The DJ systems will have to play music at low decibel levels,” Gahlaut said.
