A Jammu & Kashmir police constable has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman on pretext of marriage and also duping her of ₹14 lakh on pretext of setting up a business, the Delhi Police said on Monday.
A woman (27) had registered a complaint at Vasant Kunj (North) police station accusing a Kashmiri youth of befriending her through a dating application and raping her on the pretext of marriage.
“We have arrested Adil Hassan, a constable with J&K police. He was posted at Budgam district of Kashmir. A Delhi Police team went to Kashmir and arrested him. He was brought to Delhi on transit remand,” said DCP (South-West) Devendra Arya.
He said the local police helped them conduct raids and the accused was arrested from a house in Budgam. The woman, who belongs to Delhi, alleged that the man tried to force her to convert to Islam. He allegedly told her that his family would not accept her as she belongs to another community. The woman claimed she tried to commit suicide as she could not handle the alleged torture.
She claimed that Adil visited Delhi often. The accused allegedly told her that his family ran a shawl business in Jammu and Kashmir. The accused asked her to help him start a business in Delhi. He allegedly took around ₹14 lakh from her on the pretext of investing in the business, following which he started demanding more money. The woman allegedly found some pictures and contacts of other women in Adil’s phone. When she confronted Adil, he allegedly started threatening and blackmailing her. He threatened to circulate her obscene videos on the Internet.
