Coimbatore: In the wake of the recent arrest of seven suspects in connection with the alleged life threat to leaders of Hindu outfits, police have tightened security across the city for Ganesh Chaturthi and subsequent idol immersion procession.
Police have given permission to place more than 394 idols across the city with a posse of police personnel.
The city police granted permission to Hindu outfits, including BJP, Hindu Munnani and Hindu Makkal Katchi, to keep the idols across the city. The Hindu outfit members were advised to install the idols on September 12 night and the puja will be performed from September 13.
One police person will be deployed for each idol and five members of the Hindu outfits also will be available at the installed places.
On September 15, more than 150 idols will be taken to Singanallur and Kurichi Tank from Kuniyamuthur and Podanur area and it will be immersed. More than 300 idols will be taken to the Muthannankulam by procession and it will be immersed on September 17.
The city police, Tamil Nadu special police and home guards will be deployed across the city to prevent any untoward incidents.
In rural Coimbatore, 1,468 idols to be installed on September 13 and the rural police will deploy 1,000 police personnel across the district. Mettupalayam, Pollachi and Anaimalai areas are sensitive and police have planned to deploy more number of police personnel in the highly sensitive areas to prevent any untoward incidents. All the 1,468 idols will be immersed on September 15 and 16 in rural Coimbatore.
