All Blacks go to a 'dark place' against Springboks

2018-09-11 10:18

Cape Town - The All Blacks go to a "dark place" when taking on the Springboks, says loose forward Liam Squire.

The sides meet in Wellington on Saturday with the Boks looking for their first win against New Zealand since 2014, but despite their recent dominance in the rivalry the All Blacks will always get up for this fixture.

That much was evident listening to the loose forwards dup of Sam Cane and Liam Squire speaking on Tuesday on a video that the official All Blacks Twitter page posted online.

"They're a physical team and you also know that it's going to hurt," Squire said.

"You've got to be up for that challenge and you do go to a dark place when you play against the Africans. It's an exciting challenge for us."

Cane agreed, saying that he was looking forward to the physical battle.

"As rugby players we love nothing more than defending for five or 10 phases, getting a turnover and then punishing teams like that," he said.

Kick-off on Saturday is at 09:35 (SA time).
